Pamela Suasti

(Quito, 1991)

Ecuadorian artist dedicated to the production, experimentation and investigation of textile techniques. Through learning the technique and its complexities, her works conceive new ways of transiting, inhabiting, understanding and transforming matter. Pamela explores the possibilities in all its fields, from the original fabric, the textile as an object, and simple shapes mixing them with the ability to connect with personal processes.

Visual Artist by the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (2014)
Graduate of the Specialization of Contemporary Textile Artistic Practices by the National University of Arts of Buenos Aires (2021-2022)

“I choose to weave by your constant ability to amaze me. The encounter with soft matter calls me to a daily learning, to repetition and the insistence to master it, the fibers have become a language of introspection, creation and transformation of the present and reality. The hands are the vital tool of this process, through them the chaos is channeled, is in contact with matter that open new paths to travel. I believe in tissue as a great innate ability that has been given to us for the transformation.”

Story of Pamela Suasti

Dedicated to the production, experimentation and research of textile techniques, as well as the understanding of the fabric as an innate manifestation of nature and a symbol of spirituality. Its practice is a statement of research-making; hands are the tool para excellence to understand, create and know the world is why its relationship with textiles is sustained from the doing. Doing as a mode of resistance, study, transmission and transmutation of the material sensitive.

In doing lies a very powerful act: the will of movement, the discipline of returning and the awareness of existing.

In 2022, she won the Acquisition Award at the 5th edition of Premio Brasil at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo in Quito.

Her work has been exhibited in Ecuador, Argentina, Mexico, the United States, Portugal and Spain.
